About the RoleWe are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the team building the core, real-time Risk and Fraud Detection Platform. This mission-critical role protects our financial stability by ensuring a secure platform. You will lead a team of talented engineers, driving high-velocity execution and a platform-first technical strategy while balancing day-to-day management with direct coding on essential risk-mitigation systems.
Responsibilities- Technical execution: act as a hands-on manager coding and architecting high-priority features for the fraud detection platform (e.g., real-time monitoring, rule engines, ML model deployment pipelines).
- Metric-driven ownership: take extreme ownership of the technical roadmap for the Risk Platform, translating business goals into clear engineering objectives and holding the team accountable for measurable business impact.
- Platform scaling & resilience: oversee the design, implementation, and scaling of low-latency, high-throughput systems crucial for real-time risk assessment, ensuring high availability and resilience.
- Team & talent development: manage team performance, provide mentorship, and lead technical career development. Foster a culture of rigorous code quality, transparent communication, and continuous learning, especially in payments, security, and fraud engineering best practices.
- Cross-functional alignment: collaborate with Risk Data Scientists, Technical Product Managers, and Operations teams to define and execute the technical strategy that balances effective mitigation with a seamless user experience.
- Process optimization: champion an agile development process with a bias toward action, developing strategies to optimize development cycles and incident response procedures for high-stakes fraud system failures.
- Deep domain expertise: 3+ years building, deploying, and maintaining high-throughput Risk, Fraud, or Trust & Safety platforms in a fast-paced environment. Experience in FinTech or Payments is highly preferred.
- Technical fluency & execution: proven experience as a senior software engineer with a strong track record delivering high-stakes platform projects and coaching engineers on resilient, data-intensive, real-time systems.
- Management experience: minimum of 1 year managing an engineering team, inspiring teamwork, urgency, and high quality.
- Ownership mindset: a track record of operating with extreme ownership in ambiguous environments, making high-impact decisions with incomplete data, and taking accountability for business outcomes.
- Communication: exceptional ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs and risks clearly to engineering peers, product managers, and executive stakeholders.
- Willingness to learn and adapt: familiarity with our stack (Python, Flask, REST APIs, Cloud Services) is helpful, but willingness to rapidly acquire deep domain and stack knowledge is paramount.
